Whether you have an extra bedroom in the house or just another room you don’t know what to do with, you’ve decided it is time for the room to have purpose. It is important to put sufficient time into planning what to do with the extra room.
As you clean out the room, you may even consider using a storage unit. “Using a storage unit is a great way to free up space while you are redeorating or remodeling. The unit is a safe place that will prevent your things from being lost or damaged,” said Bob Williams, an expert of storage units Dayton. The following are five ideas for your spare room.
If you have not already considered the possibility of a guest room, now is the time. When people come to stay over, having them staying on the couch or an air mattress is fine, but they would probably appreciate their own room. You can store some of the extra items and clear the way for a bed and dresser.
Do you work from home on a regular basis? If so, having a separate office is much better than just sitting with a laptop on any couch. Your home office does not have to be huge; you just need the room for a computer, a few bookshelves or filing cabinets and perhaps a small loveseat for when you need to relax.
The Family Room
Many houses have the basics: kitchen, living room, dining room, bedrooms and bathrooms, but they do not have the space for a family room. When you create a family room, it can serve so many different purposes. For example, when the children are young, it can act as their playroom. As they grow, the space will become more of a den where the family gathers to read, play games and watch movies.
The Man Cave
For years now, your husband has been asking when he is going to get his own man cave, and it may as well be right now. Let him decorate this room as he sees fit. Chances are, he will want a bar and plenty of sports-themed items. When you have guests over, all of the men will probably flock to this little sanctuary.
For Your Teenager
Children can certainly share bedrooms well into their teen years, but you might want to give your teen his or her own room now. With older children, you can turn this spare room into a bedroom. Even if it is on a different floor in your house than the rest of the bedrooms, a teenager is generally old enough to handle this responsibility.
Having an empty room sitting in your house can be frustrating, and you might think of it as a waste. Now, you have some ideas you can employ to really shape it up and make it look great.
